Those individuals with Type 2 diabetes, who took 4 grams of docosahexaenoic acid (DHH) daily for 6 weeks had higher blood glucose levels than those who simply added 4 grams of olive oil to their diet. Although insulin levels did not rise in any group, research suggested that those with diabetes taking fish oil supplements monitor their blood sugar to ensure they don’t surpass inappropriate levels. Evidence showed that fish oil (or Omega 3 fatty acids) can decrease blood pressure and cholesterol (cardiovascular risk factors), which are of considerable importance to people with diabetes.
