New Drug Class

6 01 2009

A new class of drugs called Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 (DPP-4) Inhibitors prolongs the activty of proteins that increase the release of insulin after blood glucose rises. Januvia (Sitagliptin Phosphate) enhances the ability of the body to lower glucose levels without gaining weight as other type 2 diabetes medicines are known to do. This drug can be used alone or in combination with other anti-diabetic drugs for those whose glucose cannot be controlled with diet and exercise.
